About this Event
100 Library Drive Chapel Hill, NC
https://tarheels.live/uncpda/news/research-cafe/While social media was initially proposed as a way to foster connection and belonging to the next generation, there is growing concern that it may be doing just the opposite – increasing loneliness while getting youth “hooked” by algorithm driven design features. At a time when adolescent’s social lives and brain development are remarkably dynamic, social media has the potential to have long term impacts, for better or worse. In this talk Drs. Angelica Carranza and Jimmy Capella will discuss the current state of research on social media’s impacts on development, highlighting the risks and opportunities of the online social world. Join us on Tuesday, April 21, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Chapel Hill Public Library. We will serve light refreshments during the talk. This event is made possible with the support of UNC Carolina Seminars.
