DESCRIPTION:Members of the Carolina community are invited to attend an upco
 ming session to learn more about the opportunity to improve the Pit and it
 s adjacent spaces.\n \n\nFor many years\, the space has suffered from poor
  drainage and ponding\, diminishing its use and detrimentally impacting th
 e two overcup oaks in its center. Fixing the drainage problem will unfortu
 nately require removal of these two trees. This in turn presents an opport
 unity to reimagine this landscape and think more holistically about the fu
 ture of the Pit area.\n \n\nFacilities Planning and Design and Reed Hilder
 brand Landscape Architects are currently working on a preliminary design p
 roject with the aim to better understand how individuals use the Pit today
  and identify potential ways to improve the daily functioning of this icon
 ic campus landscape. The University and the design team are studying criti
 cal site systems (drainage\, materiality\, canopy\, programming\, circulat
 ion\, topography\, etc.) with the aim of improving the space while still m
 aintaining the historic character of the Pit.\n \n\nWe invite the communit
 y to review the current work and provide valuable feedback to Facilities P
 lanning and Design and the design team at one of two upcoming sessions:\n\
