The UNC School of Law, Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the UNC School of Government will host a screening of Our Movement Starts Here, a documentary chronicling Warren County, North Carolina’s historic fight against the construction of a toxic PCB landfill. These protests are widely regarded as the birth of the modern Environmental Justice movement. The film also highlights ongoing environmental justice challenges, calling for new advocates to continue this critical work. A panel discussion will follow, featuring filmmaker John Rash, UNC Law and Gillings faculty, and Warren County residents who were active in the protest movement. Join us to reflect on this landmark struggle and explore current environmental justice issues in North Carolina.
