Duo 彩 AYA includes flutist Dr. Rachel Woolf and marimbist Makana Jimbu. As a duo, they are dedicated to commissioning new works by today’s leading composers and performing music that reflects global perspectives and the natural world. Rachel is a multidimensional artist who currently serves as Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is Principal Flute of Symphony of the Hills, flutist in rock band The Polyphonic Spree, a regular principal with San Antonio Philharmonic and the Air Force Band of the West and has performed at the National Flute Association Convention seven times. Tokyo-based marimbist Makana Jimbu is a multiple prize-winning musician at marimba competitions, including Japan Percussion Association Competition, KOBE International Marimba Competition, Poland International Marimba Competition, and PAS Italy Marimba Competition. Both Rachel and Makana are passionate music educators and are committed to sharing their knowledge with the next generation of artists.
