This session explores how meaningful, lasting partnerships between rural communities and campuses are built by centering local voices, experiences, and priorities. This presentation highlights listening not as a passive skill, but as an active, intentional practice that fosters trust, mutual respect, and shared ownership. Through real-world examples and practical strategies, participants will learn how campuses and rural communities can move beyond transactional relationships to co-create solutions that are culturally grounded, responsive, and sustainable. Attendees will leave with actionable insights on engaging communities as equal partners, strengthening collaboration, and laying the foundation for impact that truly begins with listening.
