 What is a fern\, anyway? In this talk\, botanist Carl Rothfels will demyst
 ify (and maybe re-mystify) the fascinating world of ferns. He'll explore t
 heir unusual hidden biology\, provide tips for fern identification\, and i
 ntroduce some of North Carolina's outstanding fern diversity.\n\n \n\nABOU
 T THE SPEAKER\n\nCarl Rothfels was born and raised in southern Ontario and
  was a nature nerd from a young age. It wasn't until his PhD at Duke Unive
 rsity\, however\, that he caught the fern flu. Now a full-fledged pteridol
 ogist\, he is the Director of the Intermountain Herbarium in Logan\, Utah\
 , where he gets to indulge his interest in botanical diversity and particu
 larly his fascination with the infamously confusing fragile ferns (Cystopt
 eris).
