Have you ever wondered how much information is in a bird's song? Focusing on songbirds that occur in North Carolina, this talk will first cover basics of bird song biology including the song structure, the functions of song, and how birds learn and produce it. Then examples will be given of the surprisingly many kinds of information that can be contained in song about a bird's identity, history, and current status.
