Who’s afraid of a big, bad budget? If the answer is “me!” you’re not alone. Budgeting can be an intimidating learning curve, but it is a useful skill. Telling the story of your project, advocating for what you need to make it flourish, and navigating the financial systems of your institution are necessary skills when developing a successful budget. In this workshop, we’ll break down the building blocks of budgets and bring you a new level of confidence for your next grant or fellowship submission.

Join members of the Arts and Humanities Grant Studio and College of Arts & Sciences Research Support Team to discuss:

  • Common itemized expenses for arts and humanities projects
  • How to identify if a funding solicitation is a good fit for your research needs and anticipated expenses
  • What resources are available at UNC-Chapel Hill for grant applicants
  • Definitions for frequently used terms like F&A, Fringe, Allowable Expenses, and Cost-Share
  • How to format a budget, in collaboration with your Contracts & Grants Coordinator
  • Where to get started on creating a budget for your project
  • Common mistakes when designing a budget and how to avoid them

All are welcome. Lunch will be provided. Please register by Wednesday, May 6th to ensure your spot at the event.
