DESCRIPTION:Energy at a Crossroads: North Carolina’s Electric Grid Transi
 tion\nApril 24\, 2026 | 6:30-8:00 PM | The Friday Center\, 100 Friday Cent
er Drive\, Chapel Hill\, NC\n\n \n\nWhat do these changes mean for North C
arolinians? And how will the transition affect our electric availability\,
the cost of energy\, and the future of our environment?\n\n \n\nNew innov
ations in energy technology are transforming how North Carolinians produce
\, receive\, and use electricity. Technologies such as solar power\, batte
ry storage\, electric vehicles\, and smart grid systems are beginning to r
eshape the electric grid that powers our homes\, businesses\, and communit
ies\; at the same time\, our state works to balance reliability\, affordab
ility\, and environmental goals. In other words\, we are at a crossroads b
etween our energy choices of the past and the changes that the North Carol
ina electric grid transition will hopefully address.\n\n \n\nThis timely p
resentation will explore not only the key forces driving North Carolina’
s energy transition\, but also the opportunities and challenges that lie a
head. Together\, we will consider how utilities\, policymakers\, and commu
nities are navigating this period of change – and what it may mean for t
he future of energy in our state.\n\n \n\nJoin us for an informative and e
ngaging session designed to help community members better understand the e
volving energy landscape\, as well as the choices that will shape a cleane
r\, more resilient electric system.\n\n \n\nRegistration is required to at
tend this free event!\n\nRegister Now\n\n(Campus Life Experience (CLE) cre
dits are available to UNC students via https://heellife.unc.edu/)\n\n \n\n
\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nNoah Kittner\, PhD is the Director of the Energy
Transition Initiative at UNC’s Institute for the Environment and an Ass
ociate Professor in the Departments of Environmental Sciences and Engineer
ing and City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.\n\n \n\nDr. Kittner’s research examines how emerging energy
technologies\, including renewable energy\, energy storage\, and electrif
ication strategies can support reliable\, affordable\, and low-carbon ener
gy systems in North Carolina and beyond\, with projects in Kosovo\, Thaila
nd\, and California.\n\n \n\nDr. Kittner received his PhD in Energy and Re
sources from the University of California at Berkeley. He received his BS
in Environmental Science (highest honors) with a dual minor in Mathematics
and Urban Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
