This is a free, public event, but registration is required.
Charles, a 1994 UNC Hussman alumna, is a distinguished journalist known for her in-depth and critical coverage of Haiti and the English-speaking Caribbean for the Miami Herald.
Described as “Haiti’s ambassador to the world” by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Jacqueline is a sought-after speaker for her insights on Haiti, its immigrant communities around the region and her push for accurate representation and diversity in coverage.
Among numerous honors for her work, Charles is a Pulitzer Prize Finalist, an Emmy Award winner and is the only journalist to have been twice-named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists.
She has been recognized with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Distinguished Alumna Award, and in 2022, Charles was inducted to the NC Media & Journalism Hall of Fame.
